Welcome!
My name is David Oliveira, and I'm a photojournalist based in Vila Nova de Gaia, district of Porto, in Portugal.
My photographic journey began in early 2016, when I decided to acquire my first DSLR camera, to study and practice photography, after quiting a job. I had been interested in cameras ever since I was a child, but I didn't quite have the opportunities, and that probably led me to pursue this path later, as an adult.
I'd always been seriously drawn to journalism, photojournalism and documentary. As my photography matured over the years, I realised that I too could take part in that world, and that it wasn't too late for a career change.
With my ambitions set, I finally invested in a professional photography course, that lasted a little over a year. Up until that time, I had only take on online formation.
I graduated at IPCI — Instituto de Produção Cultural & Imagem in 2021. Since then, I continue covering news and stories, while developing a few personal projects on the side.
Currently, I'm a full-time freelance photographer, with special focus on photojournalism, reportage on news-related events, and music photography. On occasions, I take on wedding photography, most of the times as a second shooter. My wedding portfolio is not publicly exhibited, but it can be shown upon request.
I regularly work with a few news agencies, and my photographs have been seen in several newspapers and magazines, such as DW, Daily Mail, Forbes, Marianne, L'Humanité, Luxemburger Wort, Ms., CNN Portugal and many others.
